As the global demand for electronics rises in 2021, a spotlight is casted on Taiwan’s outsized role in the semiconductor supply chain. To promote collaboration between Taiwanese and Indian semiconductor firms, the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and the Foundation for Commerce and Culture Interchange (FCCI), with the support of the Bureau of Foreign Trade and the India-Taipei Association, set the theme of the annual India-Taiwan Cooperation and Friendship Forum to “Silicon Handshake-Forming Technology Alliances Post-Pandemic”, attended by experts from both India and Taiwan, who shared their insights on the latest semiconductor developments and areas for bilateral cooperation.
During the key note speeches, Dr. VK Saraswat, Member of the Indian governmental think tank NITI Aayog, addressed the economic and strategic importance of India acquiring fabrication capabilities; Dr. Wen Kuan Yeh, Director General of the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI), spoke of Taiwan’s latest R&D trends and talent training. The keynote speeches were followed by presentations by IESA Chairperson Mr. Rajeev Khushu and Dr. Kai-An Cheng, which illustrated the business opportunities in India and Taiwan’s semiconductor industries. The forum concluded with a panel discussion with MeitY Joint Secretary Mr. Saurabh Gaur, IESA President Mr. K Krishna Moorthy, MediaTek India General Manager Ms. Rituparna Mandal, TSRI Director General Dr. Yeh, and Andes Technology CEO Mr. Frankwell Lin.
